Students are approaching the final project using different interpretations of the information they have learned. The Mountain Apple tree and moon phases show this students keen art abilities. Below, a descriptive paragraph or poem will allow deep reflection of the relationships. Kumus provided a writing guide to help students put their image to words.

Below, model collages, from Kumu Makamae and Prevenas gave students a framework to use for presence of elements. Prevenas also utilized a checklist so students could logically arrange their work.

Students are making Sense of Place through a collage. Using information about their canoe plant, colored pencil and pastel drawings of their observations, and their personal waypoint (GPS), they make sense of their relationships between themselves, Maui, their moon phase, and canoe plant. Here are several students at work on their collages.

The collages that students have created are stunning! It reflects their deep understanding of  vital relationships through metaphors. Their use of color to display emotion is quite true to who they are.
